In what respect is the TripY system specially adapted to the motorcycle ?

The TripY system including the electronic road book RoadMaster, the cartography editor software RoadTracer and a library of quality european road books has been designed by motorcyclists for motorcyclists.

The RoadMaster remains waterproof at 1m depth during 1/2 an hours and so meets the protection level IP67 as per international standards. Its LCD screen is large, readable in all weather conditions and protected by a scratch resistant glass. The keyboard is located left hand in order to be able to manage your RoadMaster while you keep the throttle open and without masking the screen. The large buttons are well apart from each other in order to enable you actuating them easily with gloves. For a partical and robust fixing on your motorcycle, the RoadMaster is directly compatible with the RAM Mount (www.ram-mount.com) cockpit and handlebar fixing brackets. The RoadMaster is completely autonomous. It features embedded GPS-technology, antenna and batteries. With loaded batteries, it has 30 hours of autonomy.

How do I get the RoadMaster mounted on my motorcycle ?

Either by means of the standard RAM Mount mounting kit that we propose in option or - if your motorcycle requires another shape of adaptor that the one we propose - thanks to another RAM Mount combination (www.ram-mount.com) that you will be able to find in a specialised shop. RAM Mount is the world leader in mounting accessories and hence it covers the largest scope of possible configurations.

The RAM Mount accessories are quality products that reduce and whitshtand vibrations. They allow you to remove your RoadMaster quickly from your motorcycle (in order to avoid theft).

The ease of installation also comes from the fact that the RoadMaster is autonomous. It requires no cabling and has 30 hours autonomy.

Is the RoadMaster a conventional GPS navigation system ?

No, the RoadMaster is an electronic road book that benefits from the additional advantages of the GPS technology. One CANNOT compare this system with a conventional navigation GPS. Although much more advanced, the RoadMaster is nearer to the more or less sophisticated road book holders familiar to rally pilots.

The RoadMaster is not suited to get you through the fastest ways in the centre of the city. On the contrary, it offers you the opportunity to discover new picturesque itineraries each time you want to go out. With your RoadMaster, you will be able stroll around in places unknown to you so far. One of the key elements of the TripY concept, consists in giving you access to a library of quality road books. For our greatest pleasure of trueborn motorcyclists, these road books have been created by passionated peers that want us to discover the nicest roads and places in their own region. Your RoadMaster is delivered with the RoadTracer cartography editor which is a software that allows to view your road books on the map, print them under paper format, create your own road books based on a recorded track or on the map itself.

Thanks to its GPS technology, the RoadMaster will guide you with the highest precision. It gives you the remaining distance to the next way point and constantly checks whether you are still follow the right route. If nevertheless you quit the normal route, being on purpose or incidentally, your RoadMaster will help you to retrieve the correct route by means of navigation by compass.

You can easily print the road books that you will create under paper format to share them with friends that do not yet have their own RoadMaster. Beyond its main functions, the RoadMaster allows you also to navigate by compass towards the nearest gas station, to know your precise GPS position and to manage your trip data with the trip master function that features 3 different odometers.

Why does the screen of the RoadMaster have no backlight ?

Because the backlight is very much energy consuming and that we have given the priority to the RoadMaster autonomy that reaches 30hours with fully loaded batteries. Backlighting is not making a lot of sense for a device that is intended to make you enjoy winding roads, admire the nature and smell fine odors. These activities usually happen at daylight. For motorcyclists that regularily ride in the darkness, a small lighting pod will be available in the future.

Why does the screen of the RoadMaster have no backlight ?

We motorcyclists like to ride without constraints. Without being bound to an earpiece to be hooked up (with a thread on your leg) and that you have stand all along the road (discomfort in your helmet). Besides, strolling around steering your motorcycle does not fit that much with the intrusive presence of that toneless voice giving you its instructions. Except special cases, such disturbing accessories are not our cup of thea.

Moreover, the ambiant noise does not always allow us to understand the instructions that are given, and most of the time they come too late because of the dynamic that is typical to motorcycle riding. Wth the TripY RoadMaster, you remain entirely devoted to you riding style, just a quick look at the screen will inform you about current status vis-à-vis your next way point.

Can the the RoadMaster be used indifferently on my motorcycle and in my car ?

Being understood that the TripY RoadMaster does not give the functionality of a conventinal GPS navigation system, it can be used in your car in whichever of its functions, for example to make the reconnaissance of a future motorcycle trip by car with the whole family. Nevertheless, the TripY RoadMaster has been specially designed for motorcycle trips and not for use in the car. If you are looking for a conventional navigation system, you better orientate yourself to one of the numerous quality products available on the market. If you are looking for a professional tool to ride motorcycle trips, then the TripY will be your best companion.

Buying a GPS system means big spending, then why would I buy the RoadMaster that is an electronic road book exclusively dedicated to the motorcycle ?

According to your needs, the best combination might be to acquire a good conventional navigation system for your car and, on the other hand, to buy the RoadMaster as your electronic road book for your ever renewed trips. These two devices have a totally different vocation and are therefore complementary. In this case, your GPS system for the car does not need to be waterproof, its cost will be roughly 50% lower than for its waterproof equivalent for the motorcycle. At the end of the story, the sum to spend to acquire both devices, the one for your car and the TripY RoadMaster will be lower than the cost of the sole waterproof navigation nsystem for the motorcycle, that does offer neither the trips that we propose, nor the tools to create your own road books.

How does the TripY system position itself compared to a PDA (pocket computer) + GPS + Cartography ?

Comes to the same result as a conventional GPS solution except it is a PC in addition. The overall cost is almost equivalent to the one of a conventional waterproof GPS navigation system. And this for a basic solution that is not waterproof. PDA housings are too fragile to be used on a motorcycle. Handling the buttons and the touchscreen with gloves is as good as impossible. Moreover, a battery powered PDA will last probably 3 hours due to the high consumption of the backlighted screen. You can connect to the motorcycle battery but in this case it is constantly charging and it can overheat, the more if it is like often put into a plastic protective sleeve. And there again, you cannot benefit from the road books we offer, make road books yourslef and share them friends.

Can the RoadMaster be used in all wheather conditions ?

The RoadMaster is waterproof and designed to resist to extreme wheather conditions. It remains waterproof at 1m depth during 1/2 an our (level IP67). It works within a temperature range from 0°C (32°F) to 50°C (122°F).

Can the RoadMaster be used to follow a road book in paper format ?

Yes by means of an optional cable, the RoadMaster can be connected to the battery of your motorcycle. However, the RoadMaster having a very long autonomy (30 hours) with its integrated batteries, it can best be powered that way in order to avoid the boring task of cabling the unit to the battery.

Can the RoadMaster be used to follow and record a road book in paper format ?

Yes, thanks to its trip master function in combination with its road book recording capabilty, your RoadMaster will memorise the GPS coordinates of your itinerary (track). Each time you make a reset of your trip master, your RoadMaster will automatically record a way point (direction change, see definition in the page "more on road books)".

Can the RoadMaster record an itinerary ?

Yes, the RoadMaster can record whichever itinerary (track), on legal roads, in off-road, and even in compass navigation through everything. Contrary to most navigation GPS sytems, the RoadMaster is not cartography dependant. Thanks to this function, you can review on the editor RoadTracer where you passed when you return from a trip. You can even create your own road book starting from this track in order to be able to redo exactly the same trip later on with friends.

I am representing a motorcycle club organising outings or I am a travel agent specilaised in motorcycle trips, is the TripY system not likely to harm my activity ?

No, on the contrary. Motorcyclists that take part to your organsiations look in most cases for a complete set of services including accompaniment, food, overnight stay, assistance, attractions, etc.

In this context, the pleasure to be together in a group of people sharing the same passion is also part of your offer. Your itinerary is one of the components of your offer, but it is by far not the main one.

At the starting point of an outing with say 50 riders, participants usually ride in small groups. Each small group has its leader that guides the group by reading the road book. The one having the road book on his RoadMaster will only have it easier and, if he wants so, he will also have the opportunity to leave the group for some time to ride at his personal tempo.

Regarding the one participant that just takes part to record your itinerary in order to compete with you later, it is unfortunately his right as no copyrights apply to itineraries. Even with the current technology progress, it remains a rare exception that a true professional turns to such practices. As you know, copying your itinerary is far from being enough to be a succesful organiser. The less scrupulous amateur on his side will not be able to compete with your own level of professionalism and the scope of services you propose to your participants.
