On good Black Forest roads. Nice even for beginners. Summary: 225 km 4h15
From Oberharmersbach towards Oppenau passing in front of the Allerheiligen convent ruines, by a twisty road leading to the Schwarzwaldhochstraβe (B500). Follow the B500 to reach the famous Mummelsee (coffee pause). Its name finds its origin in the white lillies « Mummeln » growing galore on the lake. With 800 m (2624 ft) perimeter (the largest), 17 m (56 ft) depth (the deepest) and an altitude of 1036 m (3399 ft) it is the highest of the last 7 remaining ice age lakes in Black Forest. Continue on the B500 to pass in front of the distinguished hotel above Buhl. Impressive viewpoints along the route to Baden-Baden suburbs. Through Gernsbach towards Loffenau, one should here take the path leading to the Plotzägemühle. In an idyllic environment the lunch pause is welcome. On the road again via Bad Herrenalb to Marxzell and its Farhzeug und Technikmuseum (technical and transports museum). In this museum, in a relatively scrarce space, a huge and chaotic collection not only technical, but diverse (doll house, two-headed goat, vintage movie machine, a.s.o...). The owners are among the most important collectors of Germany. The entry fee is affrordable (Adult 5€; for a group of 10 = 4€ /pp). This visit remains a « Must » when travelling through the North of the Black Forest. Return via Bad Wildbad on the Black Forest thermal baths road until Freudenstadt. Other villages like Bad Rippoldsau, Schapbach and Oberwolfach along the way. The way around the Brandenkopf on narrow roads or via Biberach to go back to Oberharmersbach.
Before going to the hotel, a coffee pause at the NILLHOF (Höhengasthaus Nillhof) for coffee and Black Forest cake bake on site for the price of 6 EUR coffee + cake (Special price for our friendly bikers).
