Arriving at the Schluchsee. The Schluchsee is a storage lake with a dam without immediate outlet to the down valley. Its level varies between 930 m (3000 ft) and 1048 m (3440 ft) making it Gemany's highest dam. It spans over 7,5 km (4,63 Miles) long and 1,4 km (0,865 Mile) wide and its surface of 500 hectares makes it the largest of the Black Forest. Its wall is 35 metres (115 ft) hight and 250 metres (820 ft) long. Its waters supply three power plants. Due to its elevation, the lake water is rather cool even in the summer. A steam train rides at the North lake shore coming from Titisee. A lunch pause along the lake shore is possible. The road passes by Todtmoss, Präg, Utzenfeld, Obermünstertal to arrive in Stauffen in Breigsau, where you can rest to visit the ruins. Twisty roads, yet interesting to head back: Bad Krozingen, Tiengen, Bötzingen, Riegel, Ettenheim, Schweighausen, Steinach and Oberharmersbach.
Before going to the hotel, a coffee pause at the NILLHOF (Höhengasthaus Nillhof) for coffee and Black Forest cake bake on site for the price of 6 EUR coffee + cake (Special price for our friendly bikers).
