From Oberharmersbach head for Biberach, Steinach, Schweighausen and Ettenheim, and take the barge (free) at Kappel-Grafenhausen to cross the Rhine. In Alsace you will ride through the Bas Rhin (67) and Haut Rhin (68) Departments with Strasbourg and Colmar as Prefect seats. On the French side, Benfeld, Barr towards Mont Sainte Odile. The main attraction remains the Sainte Odile convent but also the pagan wall surrounding it with Vosgian stones. Ste Odile, patron saint of Alsace, founded the convent in 700 AD. Breakfast pause. The rest of the tour goes through Le Howald just before Sélestat. From there heading for Sainte Marie aux Mines and the Vosges with a first pass; le Col des Bagnelles (903 m), thereafter the Col du Bonhomme (1128 m). An interesting pause at this stage of the ride. After, take the route des crêtes for the Col de la Schlucht (1258 m), and time allowed, continue the route des crêtes. No regrets, landscape is not very rich yet the roads are nicer. Go down from the heights, riding towards Munster and then Colmar. Now, the Rhine plain towards Breisach. Depending on the timing one can avoid the Kaiserstuhl heading for Tenningen. Going through Mundingen, Landeck and Freiamt to arrive in Schweighausen. Thereafter Steinach and Biberach and finally the starting point in Oberharmersbach.
Before going to the hotel, a coffee pause at the NILLHOF (Höhengasthaus Nillhof) for coffee and Black Forest cake bake on site for the price of 6 EUR coffee + cake (Special price for our friendly bikers).
