Ideal for those who always have desired to discover the Black Forest from the Schwarzwaldhochstraße through the Black Forest valleys. 279 km - 8 h (riding time 6h30)
We leave Oberharmersbach going back to Zell, go through Nordrach towards Oppenau heading for Klosterruine of Allerheiligen (pause & visit ~ 30 min.), take the B500 (Schwarzwaldhochstrasse) and stop at Mummelsee. Take the Schwarzwaldhochstrasse (B500) towards Baden-Baden – Geroldsau, turn direction of Rote Lache (lunch pause 1h). On the road again through Forbach on the B462 always heading for Freundenstadt. In Klosterreichenbad, turn to the left to take the B294, the road heading for Lossburg. Continue via Fluorn, Winzeln, Dunningen, Eschbronn/Mariazell towards St. Georgen / Schwarzwald. Here begins the stream of the Danube with the saying « Brigach und Breg bringen die Donau zur weg! » (Brigach and Breg put the Danube under way). From St. Georgen towards Brigach for a short pause at the Brigachquelle (spring of the Brigach ). The Brigach stream of the Danube has its spring at 925m in the Brigach village. The spring is captured in a farm and visible outside the buildings. Discovering a celtic-roman bas-relief in the walls of the « Hirzbauerhofes » in 1899 we can conclude that the Celtes already worshipped this salutary spring. Follow Rohrbach, Schöenenbach and Furtwangen. From here through the Katzensteig (Kat's pass) for a pause at Bregquelle, where the Danube begins. The Breg is one of the most important contributor of the Danube, and its spring is located at 1078 m. From here, the mouth of the Danube is at 2888 km, and it runs 647 km in Germany. About 100 m to the East, the spring of the Elz an,d between the two the division line between the Rhine and the Danube, and also the Balck See and the North See. Return via Schönwald, Schonach, Oberprechtal, Elzach, Biederbach, Welschensteinach, Steinach and Zell am Harmersbach towards Oberharmersbach.
